December 15, 2021

The 2021 Armed Forces Covenant and Veterans Annual Report was laid before Parliament this morning, Wednesday 15 December. Both the full report and a shorter summary version are available to read here [ gov.uk link].

This year’s report marks ten years since the Armed Forces Covenant was introduced. It is also the first report to be published jointly by the Ministry of Defence and the Office for Veterans’ Affairs in the Cabinet Office. It sets out the progress that the Government has made this year in delivering against both the Covenant and the Strategy for our Veterans.

Highlights from this year include:

The launch of Op COURAGE in England, bringing together existing mental health services for veterans into one comprehensive pathway.

  • Almost £25 million in Service Pupil Premium funding, as well as a new School Admissions Code for England that includes provisions intended to ensure that Service families are not disadvantaged when applying for school places.
  • Record levels of investment in Service Family Accommodation.
  • A new £6 million programme from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to support charitable activities and services through the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The 2021 Census in England and Wales, which for the first time asked respondents whether they had previously served in the UK Armed Forces.
