Suffolk Covenant Group creates health services webpage for its Armed Forces community

Members of the Armed Forces community were finding it hard to identify the health services available to them.

What was the situation?

Members of the Armed Forces community may require access to a range of health and wellbeing services provided by the NHS and the charity sector. However, the Suffolk Covenant Group noticed that many members of the Armed Forces community, as well as healthcare professionals, were unaware of the services available to support them.

What made this Covenant disadvantage?

Members of the Armed Forces community may be less aware of local services and available support than civilians, especially if they have recently relocated due to Service. This can make it more challenging for them to access the support they need, than civilians who are already aware.

Healthcare professionals may also be unfamiliar with all the healthcare services available to the Armed Forces community, making it more difficult for them to provide appropriate help.

What was done to help?

The Suffolk Covenant Group created a dedicated health services webpage on the Suffolk County Council website. It provides information on the range of services available to the Armed Forces community through the NHS and charity sectors, including both mainstream (Samaritans, NHS) and bespoke, exclusive services (Op COURAGE).

What was the outcome?

The webpage provides a single point of access to information about health and wellbeing support for the Armed Forces community. It brings together a wide range of information on a variety of services to help the Armed Forces community better understand the support available to them.
